Trona Pinnacles – East of Death Valley

The dramatic night sky filled with countless stars and the vibrant band of the Milky Way galaxy, set against the unique desert landscape of a location known as Trona Pinnacles. The dominant feature of the sky is the Milky Way, a luminous trail of white and pinkish hues, that create a glittering texture against the dark purple-black sky. Below the celestial spectacle lies a barren, rocky terrain of the Trona Pinnacles, tufa formations, which are cone-shaped or spire-like rock structures, characteristic of ancient lakebeds. These formations vary in size and shape, with some appearing tall and slender, while others are more rounded and massive. This single exposure shows the pinnacles lit by the stars and distant city lights.
