Fan Worm – Anilao

A close-up underwater image of two anemone-like cnidarians attached to a hard substrate. Each individual presents a circular oral disc at the center from which a dense crown of long, slender, translucent tentacles radiates outward in near-perfect radial symmetry. Surface textures and coloration: the tentacles are mostly milky white with subtle translucency and fine longitudinal striations; specular highlights from the lighting trace the curved surfaces of many tentacles. The central mouths are small, circular, and distinctly pigmented red, with tiny darker points or grooves visible in the very center. The full extension of the tentacles and their open, radial arrangement indicate the animals are in a feeding/extended posture rather than retracted. A detailed macro study emphasizing form, symmetry and fine tentacular detail — high-contrast lighting, selective focus, and vivid central coloration draw attention to the paired oral discs amid a delicate field of translucent tentacles. This image was taken off Anilao near Batangas in the Philippines.
